Autobiography
My name is Geofrey Alex Kilawe, a Tanzanian researcher with an academic background in bachelor of science (Biology and Geography). I am currently pursuing a Master of Science in Biodiversity and Ecosystem Management at The Nelson Mandela African Institution of Science and Technology (NM-AIST). My academic and professional interests focus on the interactions between ecological systems and human livelihoods, particularly within pastoral and rangeland environments.
My current research, titled “The Effects of Bush Encroachment and Human Disturbances in Rangelands of Northern Tanzania: A Case Study of Alalili Systems,” investigates how bush encroachment and anthropogenic pressures influence rangelands productivity, fodder availability, and pastoral and agro-pastoral livelihoods. The study will generate evidence-based insights
to inform sustainable conservation and adaptive management strategies. It will promote there duction of the degradation pressure, sustain the pasture availability and uplift the economic status of pastoralists and agro-pastoral communities through knowledge dissemination.
I am deeply committed to advancing biodiversity conservation and promoting sustainable land use in Tanzania. Through this research, I intend to contribute practical insights that support policymakers, conservation practitioners, and local communities in restoring degraded rangelands and strengthening traditional resource governance systems. Ultimately, my goal is to enhance ecological resilience and improve the socio-economic well-being of pastoral and agro-pastoral communities in northern Tanzania.
