Autobiography

Iddi is a veterinary scientist with experience spanning 18 years specializing in the conservation of African wildlife. As a researcher at the Tanzania Wildlife Research Institute (TAWIRI), he is interested in understanding the complex transmission dynamics of pathogens, particularly zoonotic wildlife diseases circulating in human-wildlife interface areas. He has extensive experience in orchestrating and executing wildlife disease surveillance and monitoring initiatives across diverse Tanzanian ecosystems, with a heightened focus on primates and carnivores. Additionally, he has actively contributed to devising and implementing strategies for control of zoonotic diseases within these ecosystems. Iddi has extensive experience in developing, coordinating and executing wildlife disease surveillance and monitoring initiatives as well as control strategies in diverse Tanzanian ecosystems, with a specific focus on primates and carnivores. Furthermore, he has demonstrated high proficiency in wildlife rescue, translocation, and rehabilitation. Notably, he has also been instrumental in the establishment and management of zoological gardens and has played an indispensable role in mitigating human-crocodile conflicts in Tanzania. In addition to practical work, Iddi has co-authored 22 scholarly papers in esteemed journals as well as 3 book chapters revolving around wildlife diseases, pathogen transmission dynamics in primates, carnivores, and landscape conservation, He is an engaged member of professional associations, including the Tanzania Veterinary Association and the Gorilla Pathology Specialist Group.
