Summary
Dr Elifuraha Elisha Njoghomi is a seasoned forestry scientist and ecological researcher with over two decades of experience in tropical woodland ecology, silviculture, and sustainable forest management. He holds a PhD in Forest Ecology, majoring in Sustainable Use of Renewable Natural Resources from the University of Helsinki, Finland, where his research focused on tree growth dynamics and ecological recovery in Tanzania’s Kitulangalo Miombo woodlands. Dr Njoghomi also earned both his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Forestry from Sokoine University of Agriculture (SUA), Tanzania.
Since 2006, he has served as a researcher at the Tanzania Forestry Research Institute (TAFORI), contributing to national and international projects on forest landscape restoration, biodiversity conservation, and climate resilience. His expertise spans miombo silviculture, forest disturbance ecology, and the development of restoration strategies informed by empirical data and field-based insights. Notably, he completed a research fellowship at the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute (STRI) in 2023, investigating tree mortality patterns across African woodlands.
Dr Njoghomi has led and co-led numerous consultancies and research initiatives, including blue carbon assessments, forest corridor planning, and national forest monitoring. His contributions extend to technical reporting, policy advising, and capacity building in forest governance. He is proficient in R programming, GIS, and remote sensing technologies, and actively engages in international knowledge exchange through conferences and fellowships.
