Autobiography

My name is Plakizia Msalilwa, and I am a passionate researcher in the field of wildlife conservation and ecosystem management. I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Wildlife Conservation from the College of African Wildlife Management and recently graduated with a Master’s degree in Conservation Management of African Ecosystems from the University of Glasgow, where I deepened my expertise in conservation science and ecological management. I have had the opportunity to work with Oikos East Africa on projects addressing human-wildlife conflict and rangeland restoration, gaining practical experience in sustainable conservation practices. Currently, I am an intern at the North Carolina Zoo, where I am engaged in vulture conservation—a crucial yet highly threatened species in African ecosystems. My research interests focus on species conservation, habitat restoration, and the interactions between wildlife and human communities, with a particular interest in the foraging behavior, movement patterns, and population dynamics of vulnerable species like vultures, elephants etc. I am motivated by a strong commitment to fieldwork, community engagement, and the integration of science into conservation strategies. In the future, I aspire to pursue a PhD, further contributing to conservation research and policy development. My goal is to create sustainable conservation solutions that benefit both wildlife and communities, ensuring a harmonious coexistence that supports biodiversity for generations to come.
