Autobiography

Abbas Siraji Abbas is a Tanzanian researcher and development practitioner currently pursuing a Master of Arts in Natural Resource Assessment and Management at the Open University of Tanzania. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Project Planning, Management, and Community Development, with strong academic and professional expertise in natural resource management, community engagement, and sustainable development. Professionally, Abbas serves as a Project Manager at Total LandCare (TLC) Tanzania, where he leads the implementation of the Restore Agricultural Landscapes (REAL) Project. His work involves coordinating field activities, conducting monitoring and verification (MVR), facilitating community engagement, and overseeing stakeholder communication and reporting. He has significant experience in participatory natural resource governance, climate change mitigation, wildlife-related community programs, and sustainable land-use practices. Abbas has worked extensively with rural communities, Local Government Authorities, and national environmental institutions through FPIC processes, stakeholder consultation meetings, baseline assessments, and supervisory field missions. He has also participated in several specialized trainings related to ecosystem restoration, nature-based solutions, biodiversity conservation, spatial data management, and monitoring and evaluation. For his Master’s research, Abbas is undertaking a study titled “Enhancing Community Engagement in Wildlife Conservation at Uwanda Game Reserve in Sumbawanga District, Tanzania.” This research aims to assess local community participation in wildlife conservation, identify barriers to effective engagement, and propose strategies to strengthen collaborative conservation efforts within the Uwanda Game Reserve ecosystem. Abbas is committed to advancing evidence-based conservation, strengthening community-wildlife coexistence, and contributing to sustainable natural resource management in Tanzania.
