Autobiography
After completing a diploma in Nature Conservation in 1995, Rainer worked in the Kruger National Park for 7 years where his work included biodiversity research, reserve management and anti poaching. In 2002 Rainer moved to the outer islands of the Seychelles where he remained for 15 years establishing new protected areas; implementing long term monitoring programs and targeted research projects; writing conservation management plans; rehabilitating damaged ecosystems and supervising postgraduate students. In 2012 Rainer achieved his Doctorate degree in Nature Conservation. He currently works for the National Geographic Okavango Wilderness Project in the capacity of Research Director leading numerous canoe expeditions of remote African rivers. Rainer is also an accomplished photographer winning the 2017 Getaway photographer of the year competition and featuring in many conservation articles.
