Autobiography
Masai Loreu is an early-career conservationist with a strong commitment to environmental protection, wildlife conservation and sustainable tourism.
Currently a Field Researcher with the North Carolina Zoo, Masai works on projects focused on vulture preservation, effect of pesticides to health and the environment and community engagement. Masai contributes to field studies that is trying to change people s’ mindset about traditional beliefs of using parts of endangered species of vultures and also supporting conservation goals through hands-on data collection and analysis.
Masai graduated with a bachelor’s degree in tourism management from Sokoine University of Agriculture, where he developed a foundation in ecology, sustainable tourism, biodiversity, and various policies that cut across conservation sector in Tanzania. During college, Masai interned with the Tanzania Wildlife Research Institute (TAWIRI) and Grumeti game reserve, where he gained experience in wildlife monitoring and public outreach. Masai is particularly interested in bridging the gap between science and local communities, aiming to inspire sustainable practices among stakeholders.
Passionate about conservation education, Masai volunteers in conservation programs, leading nature walks and teaching workshops on the importance of preserving vultures and local ecosystems in general. In the future, Masai hopes to pursue further studies in conservation leadership and Msc and to expand their role in shaping policies that balance environmental and community needs.
