Autobiography

Dr. Sirima is an associate Professor in the Department of Tourism and Recreation, College of Forestry, Wildlife and Tourism, Sokoine University of Agriculture. Over the years, Dr. Sirima has conducted research and consultancy activities that integrate humans, parks, and protected areas with special attention on analyzing the significance and complexity of parks and other protected areas not only as conserved areas but also their contribution to tourism growth and community development. This has not only enabled her to identify problems behind tourism, but also to contribute effective and sustainable solutions in tourism and conservation fields. Her academic background and research interests speaks to the nature of publications that cut across forestry, wildlife, and tourism with a key focus on communities, their capacity in managing natural resources, Sustainable tourism development, natural resource conflicts, recreation opportunities in urban, rural and protected settings as well as leisure related research. In governance aspect, Dr. Sirima has served as Head of Department of Tourism and Recreation between 2016 and 2022; Coordinator for research and consultancy activities at the College of Forestry, Wildlife and Tourism between 2016 and 2020; and currently as the Principal in the College of Forestry, Wildlife and Tourism since October 2022 to date.
