I am a researcher working at the Tanzania Wildlife Research Institute (TAWIRI) and a 2020 National Geographic Explorer (https://www.nationalgeographic.org/find-explorers/simula-peres-maijo). I hold an MSc in Life Sciences (Biodiversity & Ecosystems Management) and a BSc in Wildlife Science & Conservation. I have more than ten years of experience working in wildlife research and conservation in Tanzania. I have worked to assess the influence of anthropogenic disturbance on chimpanzee (Pan troglodytes) habitat use in the Masito-Ugalla Ecosystem, Tanzania. Moreover, I have participated in several chimpanzee surveys in Tanzania to estimate their populations and assess threats to their survival.
