Autobiography
Zijing Wu is currently a PhD student at the Department of Geography, University of Hong Kong. She received her Master degree with Cum Laude from the Faculty of ITC, University of Twente in 2021. Having explored in different specializations, including the Internet of Things, environmental science, GIS and remote sensing, she developed her multi-disciplinary background and strong interest in combining the technologies and perspectives in ecological and natural environment applications. She applied deep learning techniques to satellite-based monitoring of wildebeest migration and achieved automated detection and counting of wildebeest and zebras from satellite images during her master thesis research, which was then published on Nature Communications as a research article. She is now interested in studying the migration from a different perspective, the space, to understand the relationship between the herd aggregation and distribution and the changing landscapes using remote sensing technologies, so as to predict how the migration would respond to intensifying climate and anthropegenic changes.
