Autobiography
Ephraim Danford is a seasonal researcher specialised in Environmental studies/GIS /RS Mapping. With a bachelor’s degree in Geography and Environmental Science and a master’s degree in GIS & Remote Sensing, Data Science & Machine Learning from MIT’s Institute for Data, Systems, and Society (IDSS), Ephraim is also a certified Drone Pilot and instructor under the Tanzania Civil Aviation Authority (TCAA) and holds certification in Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) Safety Management from the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).
Ephraim has accumulated 14 years of expertise in GIS, Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E) systems development, data management, and capacity building with international agencies and local organizations. His combined background in geography, environmental science, and GIS technology, along with hands-on experience in M&E systems, positions him as a skilled professional in international development projects and humanitarian aid.
Ephraim has led multiple projects on geospatial related in integration with drone technology including development of comprehensive Geo data base of NTRI under TNC, Development of Geospatial MEL Platform for Wildlife Community Management Area Consortium, Leading a team of Expert in Mapping Mwanza City with integration of Geodatabase under SASA Smart and green cities project. Supervise mapping of 8 Aerodromes within Tanzania National Park covering northern circuit of tourism.
Ephraim served as a Senior GIS/Data Specialist consultant for USAID/Tanzania’s Monitoring Evaluation Learning and Adaptation Activity. His previous roles include working with the USAID Data for Development project under NORC at the University of Chicago and various humanitarian organizations like MSF (Médecins Sans Frontières), UNHCR, NRC, DRC, Oxfam, and World Vision as a GIS/M&E Specialist and Data Capacity Building consultant.
As Chairperson of the Tanzania Drone Association, Ephraim is dedicated to strengthening drone operations and fostering a supportive business environment for the industry in Tanzania. With a community of over 250 drone pilots, he advocates for utilizing drone technology to enhance economic growth and innovation across the country.
