Autobiography
As a researcher, I have developed a strong foundation in field experiment design, data analysis, and stakeholder engagement, particularly in agricultural and environmental systems. I led the conceptualization and execution of two major field trials: a 3-month campaign assessing the feasibility of remote sensing for crop damage monitoring, and a 12-month study on sugarcane farms evaluating yield response to varying nitrogen levels using crop simulation models. I managed a £25,000 research budget, optimized field operations, and collected data on soil and crop health using tools like SPAD, thermal imagers, and NDVI sensors. My work extended into laboratory analysis—determining soil nutrient dynamics—and advanced data modeling using R, including mixed-effects and machine learning models to predict sugarcane yield and pest pressure.
Additionally, I contributed to spatial mapping with QGIS and maintained productive relationships with both smallholder and industrial sugarcane farmers to ensure research relevance and impact. I presented findings at national workshops in both English and Kiswahili, prepared manuscripts for peer-reviewed journals, and collaborated effectively with fellow researchers to maximize resource use and project efficiency. This multidisciplinary experience reflects my commitment to impactful, applied research that integrates scientific rigor with practical relevance for land users and policymakers.
